ARTIST from as far as Bristol and Somerset have responded to an appeal from the Mayor of Chippenham and artist Syrah Arnold for donations of original artwork to raise money for the Friends of Chippenham Hospital.
More than 50 artists have already promised work for the Silent Auction on April 24 at the Cause Arts Centre in Chippenham.
And Ms Arnold, who is donating her skills as curator for the exhibition, has also donated a prestigious original painting of her own, which she was commissioned to paint by the Chelsea Flower Show in 1993.
"I have held on to this piece over the years for sentimental reasons, as this was such a prestigious commission to receive so early in my career," said Ms Arnold.
"However, I feel that if this painting can contribute to raising money required for specialist medical equipment, which could save someone's life, then what better use could I put it to?"
The colourful painting was used on all of the promotional material, including tickets and posters, for the Chelsea Flower Show and was commissioned by the Royal Horticultural Society.
Other donations include a blank canvas from illustrator and fine artist Jane Taylor.
Ms Taylor paints in a photo-realistic style and the highest bidder will have their portrait done in oils.
The auction viewing will take place all day on Thursday April 24 at the Cause Arts Centre.
During the exhibition prospective buyers will be able to submit a written offer in a sealed envelope.
Any artists, particularly sculptors, interested in contributing work for this auction should telephone Karin Meek on (01249) 655331.cause
