AUCTIONEERS David Harrison and Susan Owen believe that one of the lots going under the hammer in Pewsey on Wednesday has a legend attached to it.

It's a print of a late 19th century painting of John Fricker who was huntsman with the Tedworth Hunt, which has its kennels at Burbage.

Mr Harrison, who opened the Jubilee Auction Rooms at Fordbrook a year ago, said he has been told of a legend that John Fricker was the only person ever to jump the Kennet and Avon canal while out leading the hunt.

This feat is supposed to have happened near Pewsey.

But present Tedworth huntsman Rodney Ellis said: "I have not heard this story about jumping the canal and I think that would be pretty impossible."
