JP Mills has left Hardenhuish Park after becoming disillusioned with life of the Bluebirds bench.

The 19-year-old midfielder joined the club in January after being released by Southampton but failed to start a single game.

He became an instant hit with supporters when he scored two late goals to clinch a 2-1 victory for his side at Hinckley on February 15, but has made only three substitute appearances since.

Mills is hoping to sign for a club in the Dr Martens Western Division for the rest of the season, and is disappointed he was not given more of a chance to shine at Chippenham. He said: "It got to the point where I had been there long enough and felt I deserved my chance. I played a few games as substitute and played quite well in those, but then Tommy played a right back in central midfield.

"No disrespect to Scorch (Simon Charity) but that's my position. Then he got a lad in on loan from Swindon (Ian Herring) to play there. I just said 'thanks for my time here, but I want to go somewhere where I can play games'."

Mills denied he had fallen out with Saunders and stressed his decision to leave was down toa lack of action.

He said: "I don't care if I get on with the manager or not as long as I play. He's only played me for a combined total of 85 minutes in nine weeks. I spoke to a few supporters in the bar and they were asking 'why doesn't he play you?' It just seemed I always had to be patient."

He has been training with Bristol Rovers and still hopes for a return to the professional game. He is aiming to impress scouts in the Dr Martens League next season.

He said: "I probably will go back into the professional game, but anyone will tell you trialling is the hardest thing to do in football. If I can play for someone then whoever wants to can watch me in an environment I'm used to."
