LEAGUE leaders Shrewton United hammered nine past visitors Purton Reserves without reply on Saturday to inch ever closer to the Skurrays Wiltshire Premier Division title.
With seven matches still to play, the division's top scorers have now netted a whopping 126 goals.
Ironically, Purton competed well during the opening 20 minutes and matched United in most departments.
However, Anton Brownless' goal midway through the half signalled the opening of the flood gates.
He then added a second before Shaun Collins netted to make it 3-0 at the interval. The second half continued in much the same fashion.
Collins completed his hat-trick before Dean Foot bagged a brace.
Luke Kerley converted a Nick Jones corner while Lee Weekes came off the bench to grab one for himself.
Shrewton remain five points clear at the top of the table, but with main rivals Wroughton and Stratton Crosslink also winning on Saturday, United know they have to keep their fine form going if they are to re-take the title.
On Saturday they entertain Chiseldon at the Recreation Ground, kick off 3pm.
