THE Calne and District Community Link Scheme, which has provided a lifeline for elderly and vulnerable people for six years, needs more volunteers.
The Link, one of 37 similar schemes in the country, operates a team of devoted volunteers who are involved in collecting shopping, gardening, DIY, or transporting people to doctor and hospital appointments.
The team is currently looking for a co-ordinator to direct their rotas.
This vital role, which can be carried out at home by telephone, ensures contact between volunteers and the hundreds of people, who use the service each year.
As well as a co-ordinator, volunteers are also being sought to carry on the good work.
Chairman of the service, Avril May explained: "This is a very flexible service which enables volunteers do as little or as much as they like.
"Volunteers can decide the hours they want to work and qualify for a mileage allowance if using their own cars. The co-ordinator role also has its costs paid."
