TRAFFIC warden John Bordiss will be spending less time in Marlborough when he starts a new roving brief on Tuesday.

From April 1 Mr Bordiss will spend some of his time in Devizes, Pewsey and Avebury.

Devizes has been without traffic warden visits for several years, probably since the mid-90s. Now, motorists who abuse the double and single yellow lines in Devizes risk getting a warning at least and possibly a fixed penalty ticket from Mr Bordiss.

Instead of concentrating on Marlborough he has been given a new district wide brief under a new contract between KennetDistrict Council and Wiltshire police.

In the Kennet district the traffic warden is employed by the police but under a contract with Kennet which pays the costs of the service.

Although Kennet is part of the Salisbury police division it continues to have a system of parking attendants, who patrol the restricted parking areas and car parks, and a traffic warden who patrols the no-waiting areas.

Until now Mr Bordiss has worked mainly in Marlborough with occasionally forays into Pewsey.

In the city of Salisbury there is a different system where the parking ambassadors, as they are known, also carry out traffic warden duties.

Mr Bordiss will still spend the majority of his time in Marlborough but under the new contract will make spot visits to Pewsey, Avebury and Devizes.
