I WAS very disappointed to read in the Gazette that Devizes Town Football Club was on the verge of finishing.
I remember when Westbury United and Devizes Town would be fighting for the Wiltshire League title and the games over Easter would decide the championship, Good Friday at Westbury, Easter Monday at Devizes.
I played a few games for the town but regularly played for the reserves with Bill Smith as captain at centre half, myself left half (those positions are not heard of today).
The 1938-39 season the third RTR at Warminster and Devizes Reserves ended up level but the decider match could not be played owing to the war as the RTR were in France.
I believe Honeystreet won our cups after the war so Devizes Reserves never received their cups. My regards any team mates who remember me.
