I have never given the impression that I think the closure of Malmesbury Hospital is a joke, as many people who know me are aware.
I, above many others, have a personal reason for appreciating the service that all hospitals give, including Malmesbury.
Many non-members in this town wish to know more about the warden and freemen. And, unlike Mrs Travers and Mr Saunders, who indulge in sarcasm, they do the sensible thing and ask questions.
We are not a secret society and if one cares to look there are many things in print about us.
I have, on many occasions, given talks about the warden and freemen, when asked. If there is a charge my reply is no, but a donation to the Malmesbury Hospital League of Friends would be appreciated.
Many of our members have lived in this town for most of, and some, all of their lives. They have, in a quiet way, made their contribution to the town without a lot of fuss and with recourse to such trumpet blowing.
