WILTON Carpet Factory has completed one of its most interesting contracts the carpet for the new library at Swiss Cottage in London.
The contract included carpet for the children's section, which has been designed to look like an Ordnance Survey map.
With a green background, the 31-metre carpet features contour lines, castles and churches picked out in black and lakes in blue.
Weaving began on March 9 and finished just three days later.
But, explained sales supervisor Andrew Corkill, the design process took six weeks.
"One of our designers, Ros Hooper, was given a brief and had to adapt it to something we could work on," he said.
He added that technology meant that more intricate and larger patterns could now be achieved.
Manufacturing manager Terry Rossitter said that 1,008 bobbins in eight colours were used for the Axminster weave carpet and up to 30 people were involved.
