ORGANISERS of a major new charity golf competition are delighted that the event is to receive national recognition.

High Post Golf Club is the setting on Thursday June 5 for the inaugural Salisbury Journal/ High Post Corporate Golf Challenge.

As well as raising funds for the Riding for the Disabled Association, the event will now be recognised as a qualifier for the prestigious Times/JP Morgan Corporate Golf Challenge.

A maximum of 40 teams will compete for the Salisbury Journal Trophy and the title of Salisbury Corporate Champions 2003 with the victors going forward to the regional final of The Times' challenge.

Alongside the main competition, which will be a progressive Stableford format, a variety of prizes will be up for grabs on the day for nearest the hole and longest drive contests.

High Post members John Peters and Hugh Neffendorf managing directors of VES Andover Ltd and Katalysis respectively are the instigators of the event, which they hope will become an annual highlight of the local sporting calendar.

A total of 14 teams have already entered and more than 20 companies have agreed to sponsor holes or donate raffle or auction prizes.

Entry fee for the competition is £180 per team (of four players). For more details contact Peter Grimes on 01722 782356.
