A THIRD surveillance camera could be on line in Melksham by the end of next month.
The CCTV camera will be used to cover Market Place, High Street and the town end of Spa Road and King Street.
Two cameras are already running in the centre and cover Church Street, Bank Street and the north end of High Street.
A Home Office grant helped fund the third camera.
Civic leaders are now trying to raise a further £8,000 to pay for fibre optic cables, which will link the three cameras to a central monitoring point.
The system will allow other cameras to be added in the future with King Street and Church Street car parks among areas earmarked.
Cllr Colin Goodhind, who serves on the CCTV sub-committee, said: "We are looking to involve businesses to help make-up the shortfall in funding.
"Some of the positions we have identified will help cover business premises."
