NON-PAYMENT of council tax has led to a three-month suspended prison sentence for a Melksham woman.
Karen Gibbons, 45, of Padfield Gardens, was found guilty of culpable neglect for non-payment of £2,762 at North West Wiltshire Magistrates Court in Chippen-ham on March 18.
She will face imprisonment unless she maintains payments of £25 per week until the debt is cleared.
Cllr Horace Prickett, West Wiltshire District Council's service delivery portfolio holder, said: "We all have a duty to pay our council tax to ensure local services are available for local people."
Help is available for people who have genuine difficulties in paying their council tax on (01225) 770395.
