I am writing to you today regarding Wiltshire giving support to our services serving in the Gulf.
Wiltshire has a lot of service men and women with whom we all have connections.
There seems to be a lot of coverage on the anti-war protesters which was effective before our services were at war.
Now it is high time we got behind our boys and girls and give them the support they should be getting.
I know lots of people who joined the services as a career would not be expecting to go to a war. (Not that they object, as they knew they were joining an armed forces.) So they have now gone to war and not necessarily because they want to but because they have been ordered to by the Chief of Staff. So even if they are against the reasons behind going to war, they are there.
I ask that before we start to see British service people on the TV as prisoners of war paraded before all or set out in rows of bodies, should we not be showing them that we are behind them 100 per cent and tell them to come home safely.
The Wiltshire Times has extensive coverage in Wiltshire.
Perhaps a poster like the one in The Sun newspaper could be printed in support of our troops and let Wiltshire show the way for other counties to follow suit.
Perhaps someone could come up with some motif we could buy (like the charities) in support, with the monies going to the families of the services personnel.
I know there is a lot of support in Wiltshire... so let's please show it NOW.
Mr S Southall,
Wyvern Walk,
Westbury.
