CREDIT Unions are on their way to west Wiltshire with the first one due to be launched in Melksham this summer.
The Credit Union acts as a community savings and loan service where people effectively borrow from each other.
Every Credit Union member owns part of the company and no member can deposit more than £5,000. Members can borrow money after 13 weeks of saving but dividends can be earned.
The scheme is open to anyone working or living in west Wilt-shire and if successful the branch will extend to the other four west Wiltshire towns.
The idea of the Credit Union is to help all sections of the community including low-income families, children and pensioners.
The West Wiltshire Credit Union will be launched on July 1 and membership forms will be available from the United Reformed Church.
