TROWBRIDGE LEAGUE: AN early goal from Joel Grogan and a late deflection off Jeremy Curtis earned The Deverills Reserves the distinction of ending the 30-match unbeaten league run of Dynamo West End.
On a day of Division Two shocks that leaves four promotion contenders separated by just one point Dynamo, who had already beaten Deverills three times this season, lost for the first time since April 2000. It was manager Shawn Donneky's first league reverse since taking charge in the summer of that year.
Bratton's hopes of an immediate return to the top flight suffered when Andy Harding's 34th minute effort gave Hilperton United a 1-0 win.
Second-placed Rudloe lost their cup final dress rehearsal 3-2 to Westbury United A. Jason Walsh gave Rudloe the lead only for Tim Coombes to equalise. Steve Bruce (penalty) and Simon Morris then gave Westbury a two-goal cushion.
Leaders Broughton Gifford Reserves were the only side in the top four to win, and they just squeezed home 2-1 against strugglers Steeple Ashton, in a match controlled by Andy Hillier in the absence of the appointed official. Jason Richards and Liam Richards produced a two-goal Gifford lead before Andy Hallett replied.
Rowde Sports, who face Ashton in tomorrow's crunch relegation match, paid dearly for missing early chances against Lavington and Easterton, who also squandered opportunities before Paul Brewitt put them ahead in the 19th minute. An injury-time second from Jamie Cullip and a third from Tom Bishop gave Lavington a 3-0 success, their first win of the year.
In Division Three bottom-of-the-table Hilperton Reserves gave promotion hopefuls Trowbridge United a huge battle before Paul Shanley struck a 75th minute match winner. Shanley had earlier put Trowbridge ahead from a penalty before Ian Baker levelled.
Another nail-biting finish is being set up in Division One after leaders Heytesbury beat Freshford United 4-1. Dave Birleson reduced Freshford's deficit after strikes from Richard Daly and Darren Elloway before Darren Guy and Colin Bennett secured the points in the second half.
Chris Stiles notched his first hat-trick of the campaign as Broughton Gifford, with Steve Jacques scoring from the spot, completed their away programme with a 4-0 victory at struggling Blue Circle.
Champions Castle Combe, who face Frome Town Sports in tomorrow's top match, ended The Deverills' title interests with a 3-1 win. James Pope (2) and Kenny Cartlidge put Combe on top before Andy McFerran replied from the spot.
Dursley Arms are one defeat away from Division Two soccer next season. After holding title favourites Frome to a goal-less first half. Steve Coveney equalised from the spot following Freddie Brown's 51-minute opener, and two late goals from Rob Hales and Adam Hooper gave the unimpressive visitors a 3-1 win.
Bradford Sports, who led the division for 12 weeks, are in danger of sliding down the table after suffering a fifth successive defeat at the hands of Seend United, who won 2-1. Dominic Sims levelled Barry Holloway's first half strike before Luke Ballinger hit the winner.
This season's final in the AM Print and Copy-sponsored Spring Cup will be between North Bradley Saints and last season's beaten finalists Bromham Reserves, who ended hopes of a local derby final with a 4-1 win at Apetito. Alan House gave Apetito a second half advantage only for Richard Kidd to level before two quick goals from Mark Bowden and Adam Godwin, plus an own goal from Tim Cloherty, sunk the Trowbridge side.
After failing to score in the previous week's Junior Cup semi-final, Saints took just 17 seconds through Chris Fardell to find the net against Seend United Reserves, who caused the cup favourites more defensive problems than 147 FC. Julian Putt shook Saints with an equaliser before a second from Daniel Prince and then a hat-trick from Richard Bliha put Saints on top. A Chris Gale header competed a rather flattering 6-1 victory.
