TROWBRIDGE Town will discover today if they are to be reinstated in the Wiltshire Senior Cup.

They lost 1-0 to Devizes Town in the quarter-final on March 15, but have protested to the Wiltshire FA after discovering the Screwfix Direct League side fielded two ineligible players.

The quarter-final clash was originally due to be staged on February 19, but was postponed because the Nursteed Road pitch was frozen.

Only players signed on at the time of the original game were eligible to play in the rearranged match, but new signings Gerry Pearson, a former Trowbridge Town player, and Richard Clarke, who lives in Trowbridge, were included in the Devizes line-up.

Devizes have admitted breaching the regulations, but secretary Roy King is hoping FA officials will grant his club a stay of execution.

He said: "We'll just prove to them that it was an oversight rather than a deliberate act. We have had trouble club-wise and we thought, because it was a rearranged fixture, that that rule didn't apply.

Wiltshire FA officials were meeting yesterday afternoon to decide who should go through to the semi-final.

If Devizes are allowed to stay in the competition they will meet Calne Town in the semi-final at The Conigre, Melksham, on Wednesday night.

If Trowbridge are reinstated the semi-final is likely to be put back for a week, said Wiltshire FA secretary Mike Benson.
