WE write as parents of a serviceman serving in the Gulf, neither highly politically motivated or enthusiasts of war.
Our resolve has been strengthened in the light of the lies and deceit now exposed, perpetuated by the barbaric regime currently ruling the people of Iraq, following the use of weaponry the possession of which was vehemently denied.
We welcome and glory in the freedoms available in this great nation which allow all people the right to the expression of free speech without fear of retribution regardless of religion or nationality.
However the time has come for all to unite in support of our armed forces regardless of our individual ideals, even though this may be repugnant and unpalatable to some, no matter what the historical arguments may be regarding past events.
The time has arrived for every person resident in this land to decide do we deserve this freedom which is the fruit of the sacrifice of others.
Do we not welcome displaced persons seeking asylum, providing safety from regimes such as that in Iraq? We are only able to do this because we are free.
Search your conscience, do you contribute to this freedom, do you take this freedom for granted?
The next time you speak, you speak as a free citizen. That is your right.
Cherish it and support your nation and its armed forces and be rightly proud.
