CHIPPENHAM'S production line of young talent has been recognised once again with the news that under 16 ace Sam Alford has received an England call-up.

Alford was picked for the national age-group team for a clash against Wales next month joining a host of up-and-coming stars at the Allington Field club.

Development squad lead coach Rob Alford said: "The aim of the squad is to provide an environment in which every player is given the opportunity to reach his full potential.

"I would like to think that we are fulfilling that aim through quality coaching and player development.''

Chippenham have already had Simon Whatling, who has also been picked on Bath's first team bench, capped for the England Under 19s while Will Waldron has played for Wales Under 18s

Laurence Ovens is an England Schools Under 18s squad member with Mark Livesey and Dave Wared (England Clubs Under 18s) have also been selected.

Meanwhile, the club's men's team welcome back forwards Scott Sherratt and Kev Thornton from injury for the South West Two East trip to Wimborne.

But skipper Rupert Crockett is missing as coach Matt Sheppard takes an otherwise full strength side south.

The 2nd XV have busy weekend, playing a Merit Table fixture on Saturday at Aretians and then travelling to Weston Hornets in the next round of the Bristol Combination on Sunday.

Chippenham's under 13s face Salisbury in the final of the Bristol Combination Cup on Sunday while the under 15s are in their final of the same competition, against Salisbury.

The under 16s play Wootton Bassett in a deciding match in this age group of the Wiltshire Cup.

Meanwhile, another member of Chippenham's development squad has received England honours.

Sam Alford had his inclusion in the under 16s squad for the forthcoming international against Wales in April confirmed this week.

n WOOTTON Bassett have kept faith with their pack as they welcome Bournemouth in Southern Counties South tomorrow.

The back line sees two changes with youngster Jack Ricketts filling the full-back position in place of Lee Davies and Aaron Lightbody replacing Andy Edge outwide.

Gary Mander's second string also face Bournemouthin their latest Dorset and Wilts 2nd XV Merit Table.
