Bag snatcher Wayne Gulliver has been jailed for a year after a court heard how he robbed an old lady in broad daylight.
The 19-year-old thief grabbed Gladys Bradley's handbag as she walked through Trowbridge park after doing her shopping in the town centre.
The attack left the pensioner unable to sleep for days and she is now afraid to carry cash and credit cards and nervous when she sees groups of youths.
Nick Hawkins, prosecuting, told Swindon crown court Mrs Bradley was walking through the park in the centre of Trowbridge on October 28 last year when Gulliver rode past on a bicycle and snatched the handbag.
He said: "In her statement the victim said 'He just wrenched my arm and everything away from me'."
Mr Hawkins said Gulliver handed himself in at a police station two days later.
At an earlier hearing Gulliver, of Lamb Ale Green, pleaded guilty to robbery.
The court was told that offence also put him in breach of a conditional discharge imposed for a break-in at Trowbridge Bowls Club pavilion.
Kate Brunner, defending, said her client had some learning difficulties and was using drugs at the time of the offending.
Jailing him Judge Tom Longbotham said: "What you have done was rob a 73-year-old lady.
"People whether they are young, middle aged, a little older or old, in fact whatever age must be able to walk about any area of any town or city without being attacked."
