SWINDON SUPERMARINE are on course to pull off another great escape after a 1-0 victory at chief relegation rivals Rocester.

Dave Gee scored the all important goal after just three minutes leaving Ray Baverstock's side 87 minutes to hang on. But it was not a backs to the wall job. Marine more than held their own and deserved the win that moves them to within six points of their defeated opponents and the safety benchmark.

Gee's goal arrived early as Simon Futcher returning to the club on loan from Ilkeston until the end of the season sent a long throw into the Rocester box.

The ball was cleared only as far as Gee who controlled with his chest before firing a 20-yard drive beyond the reach of Phil McGinn.

Futcher then forced McGinn to make a smart stop as the visitors made all the running.

In contrast, McGinn's opposite number Elliot Jackson was a virtual bystander as Rocester failed to muster a single shot in the first half.

They improved after the break, but Marine's defence, with Steve Davies back at the helm, were superb and again the visitors looked the more likely scorers.

Darren McCluskey missed a sitter from three yards and Richard Bourne immediately rattled the Rocester woodwork.

But Gee's strike proved enough to give the Swindon club renewed hope of surviving the drop.
