I read with interest the various letters about Swindon's road junctions, traffic lights etc.

I often wonder why the people responsible for planning these things don't just admit that they have a deliberate policy of frustrating the traffic as much as possible while giving the impression of trying to improve the situation.

This can be the only explanation for the fact that when any junction is changed usually by the addition of traffic lights there is almost always an instant worsening of congestion.

Conversely, at some junctions, when there has been a traffic light failure, it has been noticeable that the traffic has flowed much more freely than when the lights are working.
