DAVE TOOMEY will attempt to fire Supermarine out of relegation trouble after agreeing to return to Hunts Copse, but Charlie Griffin will not be joining the party.

Ex-Swindon Town hitman Griffin has been transfer-listed at Chippenham, but Marine boss Ray Baverstock was unable to pull off a double transfer coup as negotiations broke down.

But talented striker Toomey has rejoined the Dr Martens League strugglers on loan from Bath City until the end of the season, and goes straight into the side to face Rugby United this evening.

Toomey was a hit at the club during a three-month spell last season before moving to League of Wales champions Barry Town.

The 31-year-old frontman returned to England to join Bath earlier this month, but Romans boss Alan Pridham has since drafted in former Chippenham star Steve Tweddle, and with City safe in the Premier Division, Toomey has been allowed out on loan to help his former employers.

The skilful forward revealed: "Alan (Pridham) wants to give some of the fringe players a chance in the last few games so he allowed me to come back to Supermarine on loan.

"I still want to stay at Bath, but I'm happy to help out here.

"We've got a bit of work to do to get out of trouble, but hopefully I can score the goals to help the club stay up."

Marine boss Baverstock confirmed that the acquisition of Toomey is a sign of the club's intent to stay in the league.

"Dave is a quality player and signing him shows we mean business and we want to stay up."

Baverstock's side are now six points adrift of safety markers Rocester in the Western Division, but tonight's home game against Rugby, followed by Bedworth's visit on Saturday, heralds an ideal opportunity for Marine to claw their way back into contention.

"It's a big week for us," added Baverstock.

"If we can pick up some points in these two home games we'll really be putting the pressure on our rivals."

Baverstock will field the same side that won 1-0 at nearest rivals Rocester on Saturday, with the exception of Toomey who should be drafted in at Rich Bourne's expense.

Highworth's quest for third place in the Hellenic Premier Division continues at home to Hook Norton.

Cirencester United are away to Chipping Norton in Division One West, and Melksham visit Paulton in the Screwfix Direct Premier Division.
