Wootton Bassett 1st XV went down 20-14 in their penultimate Southern Counties South league match at home to Bournemouth.
Bassett started the stronger of the two sides and went 6-0 ahead early on through the boot of centre Mike Dixon with two finally struck penalties.
Bournemouth then started to play and scored two quick tries.
Bassett replied with some excellent forward drives and flanker Gary Darragh claimed a try from the back of a driving maul to leave Bassett only one point adrift at half-time.
Bournemouth pushed their score higher with a converted try and a penalty and Bassett could only respond with another penalty from Dixon.
Bassett's 2nd XV thrashed Bournemouth 58-10 with two tries apiece from Ted Edwards, Dan Matthews, Mark Trowbridge and Steve Bloomer.
Hamish Gardiner also scored a try with Gareth Williamas kicking five conversions and a penalty.
Wootton Bassett Ladies went down 32-0 against Taunton Ladies.
