CHIPPENHAM'S under 12s have been crowned the champions of Wiltshire after remaining undefeated throughout yesterday's Wiltshire under 12s Tournament which was held at Corsham RFC.
The Tournament was played on a round robin basis and Chippenham's dominance and superior play was evident in the scores.
First up was Salisbury, who were last year's champions and this went to Chippenham by two tries to nil.
Next was Supermarine, who Chippenham recently played in a triangular match at Allington Field. In that match, Supermarine were completely overwhelmed and this was no different. Chippenham running in eight unanswered tries to win 40-0.
Melksham were Chippenham's next opponents and they dispatched in a very similar way, 35-0.
Wootton Bassett were next to feel the might of Chippenham and they too were demolished 35-0.
This meant that Chippenham were unbeaten and so were the hosts Corsham. This set up a mouth-watering final between the two teams.
It was a hard-fought match but Chippenham emerged as the victors, 20-5.
Chippenham's coach Kev Ingram was justifiably proud of his team's achievements.
He said: "The boys played well throughout and although we had a couple of late withdrawals from the squad, the replacements certainly did their part."
Ingram thought that the backs were outstanding and this allowed the forwards to score with ease. He added: "Overall it was a very satisfying performance and they deserved to win."
As Wiltshire champions, Chippenham now go on to face the Dorset champions who are yet to be decided. The final will be played at Supermarine on Sunday April 27.
CHIPPENHAM'S Under 13s triumphed on Sunday in their second successful cup final of the season to retain their crown as Wiltshire champions.
Having already played and defeated Salisbury in the earlier round-robin stages of the competition, the Chippenham team started in a confident mood, although determined not to be complacent. They scored an early try when no 8 Mike Boddington crashed over from close range.
They then had to weather a good deal of pressure from Salisbury, but Callum Fannin and then Matt Tatara hit on the break to put Chippenham 17-0 ahead at the break.
Salisbury again mounted pressure early in the second half and manage to score a try from a quick penalty.
From then on, Chippenham stormed back and dominated the game. Fannin grabbed his second try from an interception, and then an outstanding break from the base of a scrum by Boddington, led to the try of the match from winger Ollie Morris. Team captain, Tom Boreham added the conversion to seal a 31-7 win.
Chippenham now go forward as Wiltshire champions to play the Dorset Cup winners on April 27to decide the overall twin counties champions.
