SWINDON Town Ladies completed the double over Aylesbury United when they beat them 7-1 in a South West Combination League fixture played at Aldbourne.
The Buckinghamshire side kicked off and came close to taking an early lead. Anna Stevens played the ball through the Town defence to find Sarah Davis but Town keeper Becky Powell, on loan from Chippenham Town, was quickly out to block her shot.
Town began to settle and Lucy Bailey and Nikki Watts got shots in on target that were dealt with comfortably by Aylesbury keeper Trippoli Witney.
In the 11th minute Town took the lead. Bailey reacted quickest to an Aylesbury goal kick and drove the ball 35 yards back into the net. Michelle Rich put Watts clear on the right and her cross fell to Bailey who was just too high with the final shot.
A swift interchange of passes between Kim Reeves and Rich put Bailey in a good position but Witney in the visitors' goal did well to save.
In the 21st minute Town increased their lead. Clare Wheeler gained possession in midfield and found Rich, who in turn put Watts through on goal. The Town youngster ran through to put the ball beyond the advancing keeper.
Fiona Baldwin took a quick throw in to Reeves but the Town skipper's 30-yard lob bounced on the Aylesbury crossbar with the keeper beaten.
Aylesbury pulled one back in the 29th minute. Dani Busby did the hard work, running through Town's defence, and the ball was partially cleared, but Sarah Davis nipped in to poke it into the net.
Town hit back and struck again in the 36th minute. Reeves played a neat ball forward for Bailey to run on to and score with a low shot.
Five minutes later Town increased their lead. A long kick from keeper Powell was helped on by Rich to find Bailey who put Watts into a good position to get goal number four.
With the second half barely four minutes old Town scored again. Wheeler hit a forward pass to Reeves who threaded the ball through the visitors' defence for Bailey to run clear and score.
Four minutes later Town were awarded a penalty when one of the Aylesbury defenders was adjudged to have handled the ball during a goalmouth scramble. Wheeler stepped up and coolly rammed the spot kick low into the corner of the net.
Town were very much in control and Julie Selway cracked in a 25-yard drive that visiting keeper Witney did well to hold.
Aylesbury were quick on the break and Powell saved well from Sarah Davis. Reeves chipped the ball to Watts but centre back Natasha Blake did well to head clear with the keeper beaten.
Town took their tally to seven in the 70th minute. It was a Bailey/Reeves combination that created the opening for Watts to score. Despite the scoreline and Town pressure the Aylesbury side fought to the end and kept Town's defence on their toes with quick counter raids.
The win moves Town up to fourth place, their highest position this season.
Wyvern Staff Agency player of the match was Nikki Watts.
