THIS summer's High Street Festival in Wootton Bassett is set to run without a continental market.
The town council has agreed not to hold a market in conjunction with the event on Sunday, August 3, after a request from the town's chamber of commerce.
Wootton Bassett now benefits from a business and community forum, established by the town council, to get traders' input in planning events.
Town clerk Johnathan Bourne said: "The town council has made two major concessions to the chamber of commerce following last year's controversy, moving the festival to a Sunday and agreeing not to have a themed market as part of the event.
"We are most encouraged that the chamber, through the business forum has, however, responded positively on the subject of themed markets, recognising the economic benefits that these can bring to the town.
"We look forward to working with members on their suggestion of holding themed markets throughout the year and creating an exciting programme for the town.
"The feedback from residents and visitors to the town suggests that these markets will be very popular and well received in the town."
