So, I see the town is to get another pedestrian controlled crossing, near the Whale Bridge Roundabout.
One has to ask the question as to whether this is the best location, bearing in mind the fact that there is already an underpass. People might say the underpass is unfriendly, so why not install some CCTV, sponsored by someone? After all, another set of lights will further add to the congestion on this already congested road. More cars stopped just adds to the pollution, decreases air quality and adds cost on to drivers, both financially and in levels of frustration.
Perhaps the underlying thought is similar to Ken Livingstone's, slow the traffic down to a crawl, introduce "congestion charging" and then rephase the lights to make it look as if the process is a greater success than it really is, all the while adding revenue to the council's coffers so they can keep council tax increases to reasonable levels.
