THIS evening I encountered a cyclist riding on the Oxford Road heading east at around 4.30pm. I tooted at him and pointed to the cycle track on our right.
When I stopped at the lights at the junction of Oxford Road and Nythe Road, he pulled alongside and told me off because he found it difficult to get across the traffic to the cycle track when going eastwards.
All it needs is a little patience which, obviously, he did not have. Also his manner of speech clearly showed that he needed his mouth washing out with carbolic soap.
Will I get an apology for his language through this newspaper? I doubt it. Nor will I get a written apology through the post.
Cycle tracks were provided along the Oxford Road at great expense and inconvenience to the ratepayer of Swindon while improvements were being made. Then why do cyclists not use them? I have noticed the same attitude with the cycle track along Akers Way. Have readers noticed other cycle tracks being ignored?
Much has been said about cycle tracks lately. They are there to be used, so please, cyclists, use them or pay some road tax to use the roads!
