I HAVE every sympathy with C A Wakefield (Letters, March 24). It is obvious that many motorists will ignore any law which inconveniences them in the slightest. This is the fault of the general public and the police, who accept the King William Street type of dangerous and selfish behaviour as the norm.

Amusingly, perhaps, while walking I recently came across a truck and trailer, not only parked squarely on the pavement but the wrong side of the double yellow lines. I confronted the driver and was told that he was unloading (he was not) and a policeman had passed and waved to him. It was later revealed that his companion was a councillor. This was all by way of justification and the attitude was that I was the one in the wrong.
