PUPILS at Frogwell School dined on cheese, dates and 'sparrow's legs' when they stepped back to the time of the ancient Greeks, for a market day and feast.
Youngsters in Year 3 at the Chippenham school have studied the ancient Greeks all term, and their lessons culminated in the special Greek Day.
The children abandoned school uniform in favour of the peplos, the Greek tunic, and made up family groups visiting a market, complete with traders selling bread, olives and flowers.
Historical drama expert Roger Day visited the school in the role of blind Greek story teller Icomendes, bearing a message from the Oracle at Delphi.
He also told stories about the ancient Greeks, including the tale of King Midas and Pandora's Box and invited the children to make up their own stories.
