HARWOODS of Winterbourne is probably one of the most unique kitchen showrooms that you are likely to find.
Owned and run by Jane Field, the business is in the village of Winterbourne Dauntsey, a few miles north of Salisbury on the A338. Before even setting foot in the design showroom, visitors and clients will be stunned by the unusual building as it is housed in a converted Grade II listed granary which stands on its original staddle stones.
"I wanted a base to work from that reflected the individual nature of my business. This is a lovely environment both to work in and for my clients to visit with plenty of car parking. I did not want an inaccessible High Street showroom with high overheads. The granary has character and being at Winterbourne means I can keep my prices competitive," says Jane.
Jane has more than 18 years' experience in kitchen design and her enthusiasm and passion for what she does is self-evident. She opened the showroom at Winterbourne last September and has been delighted with the success to date.
"My clients love coming here with its quirky characteristics, 'wonky' walls, exposed beams and uneven floors." Even with these obstacles Jane has managed to incorporate a wide range of displays and design ideas. "If we can fit a kitchen in the Granary, we can fit one anywhere."
While the showroom displays predominantly kitchen furniture, there is also a fitted bathroom, a handmade bedroom display and even a children's play area with television and video.
Jane deals with several furniture manufacturers giving a wide range of choose from. "This gives me the flexibility to design something which is completely individual for my clients."
One of the companies she deals with is Stoneham plc, a fifth generation English kitchen manufacturer with a Royal Warrant to The Queen. Stoneham mixes traditional construction methods with the most up to date internal fittings. German manufacturer Systemat, another of Jane's suppliers, offers the latest in cutting edge design and German engineering but, says Jane, "without the high price tag of some German kitchens."
While Harwoods offers a complete installation service, it is Jane that undertakes both the design and co-ordination of the project.
"I think it is imperative that clients have the continuity of dealing with only one person throughout the project. I am also fortunate to have a team of first class tradesmen who take a real pride in what they do."
Make a visit to Harwoods and be inspired.
