SHERSTON couple John and Margaret Smith are celebrating their golden wedding anniversary today in the village hall.
Their anniversary is not until Saturday but it will be a double celebration for Mrs Smith who turns 75 today.
Mr Smith, 75, of Gaston Lane said: "We are really looking forward to it. There will be lots of friends and family and my wife has baked a cake. It should be fantastic."
The couple met at a London University dance in 1950 and three years later were married in Bristol.
Mr Smith said: "I was making a beeline for Margaret's friend but she was taken by the time I got there and Margaret was left and that was the start of it."
The couple have just returned from a golden honeymoon in Paris and said a shared sense of humour and taste in music had kept them together for more than 50 years.
