POWERLIFTING: A RELAXED approach certainly paid dividends for Salisbury powerlifter Phil Randall when he competed at the Corus Welsh Champion-ships in Port Talbot at the weekend, writes Mike Turner.
The former world champion admitted to having taken things easy prior to Saturday's competition at the Tiabach Centre which he won with ease.
"I only had to register one attempt at each discipline which was very pleasing," said the 39-year-old who competes in the 75kg class.
"I had plenty in reserve and I was never under any pressure," he added.
A 200kg squat was followed by a 125kg bench press. His 210kg deadlift ensured a total of 535kg which was more than enough to take first place.
His victory ensured qualification for this summer's British Champ-ionships which will be held in Bournemouth.
