APRIL 4: A DISILLUSIONED Melksham councillor has resigned from the Labour Party because he does not agree with the military attack on Iraq.
Cllr Ian Cardy and his wife, Gill, quit on Monday because they feel the war is illegal and unjustified.
After months of speculation, Cllr Cardy, of Watson's Court, resigned in protest at the way the crisis is being handled.
He said: "We are resigning from the Labour Party because we cannot support the policy of the Labour Government in its illegal and unjustified attack against Iraq.
"We are unconvinced, by the evidence presented, that Iraq has weapons of mass destruction and we are appalled at the unnecessary loss of life of British and American service personnel, and of Iraqi civilians.
"A peaceful solution could have been found if the UN inspectors had continued their work."
