To clarify some of the points put forward in Dr Hone's letter in last week's Wiltshire Times.
It is obvious from the long-term predicted growth of the greater Trowbridge area that the town will be the focus of development in the next ten to fifteen years. For this reason the District, Town and now County Councils are involved with the South West Regional Development Agency SWRDA in developing the Masterplan that will guide that future development. The Capitalis plan was just one company's view of how that future development might look.
The campaign to keep the Record Office in Trowbridge is very much part of that process in that a new facility must be built, and the Masterplan exercise gives the County Council the opportunity to be involved and to re-build that facility close to the present site as part of a major redevelopment possibly including a new library.
In the view of many people and organisations across Wiltshire and outside the county, Trowbridge is clearly the best location because of it's clearly superior public transport links and central location.
Once the Chippenham bid has failed, then we can move forward on realistic proposals for building the facility in Trowbridge.
It is the central location and good public transport links of Trowbridge that make it a prime area for development; that is why the SWRDA are involved and are investing in the Masterplan that will enable such development to be coherent and managed in the best interests of the town.
