ONCE again in the Melksham area we see a road close for four hours. Not the A350 this time but the Melksham-Holt road at Challymead.
Local residents who live on this very bad junction will tell you that they hear and witness accidents and near misses on a regular basis. We try and encourage local residents to use other forms of transport such as bikes and even walking. This is all well and good but you would be taking your life in your hands when you reach the dangerous Challymead junction if you were travelling from Holt or Broughton Gifford.
However many of the accidents are going unrecorded as far as the police and council are concerned because they are not reported or the person involved was not injured.
Even with this in mind the county council must act sooner rather than later. Up until now we have been lucky that we haven't seen a loss of life.
However, we won't always be that lucky.
Wiltshire County Council must act now before we see a fatal accident with a loss of life.
CLLR TERRY CHIVERS,
West Wiltshire District Council.
