A NEW stained glass window celebrating motherhood and the family was dedicated during a special Mothering Sunday service in Durrington parish church on Sunday.

The window was donated to the church by the Channon family who are well-known in Durrington and whose connections with the village go back decades.

The window is in memory of Emily and William Channon and has been installed in the Lady Chapel part of which William Channon helped to build.

The window is lit by an enclosed light box, which was made and fitted by Bob Channon, who lives in Porton.

All Saints church was packed for Sunday's special service and the congregation included around 70 members of the Channon family some of whom travelled from as far afield as America.

The new window was dedicated by the Bishop of Ramsbury, the Rt Rev Peter Hullah and among the congregation was the window's designer, local artist Carolyn Ferguson.

She worked closely with staff at Salisbury Cathedral's workshops to get the window as the Channon family wanted.

Churchwarden Alison Comlay said the service was "lovely" incorporating the dedication of the new window with the traditional Mothering Sunday service.

The window is the latest gift to the church from the family.

The church received a chalice and paten in memory of a son who was killed in a flying accident towards the end of the World War II and both are used regularly for Eucharist.
