MUM Karen O'Hagan has hailed council worker Clive Halliday a hero for rescuing her two young daughters, after they accidentally shut themselves in a bedroom.
Mr Halliday was clearing a blocked drain near the family's home in Newcroft Road, Calne, when he was asked for help by Mrs O'Hagan.
The frantic mum explained her daughters Shelby, three, and Georgia, one, were trapped in their elder brother James' bedroom because the door handle had fallen off inside.
Mrs O'Hagan said: "My mum and my uncle had tried everything to get them out and I was just about to call the fire brigade when Mr Halliday knocked on my door to say he was working on the drain and asked if he could go in our back garden.
"I asked him if he knew anything about locked doors and before we knew it he had gone and got his screwdrivers and he had the girls out. We were so relieved. We can't thank him enough."
Mr Halliday, who is based at the Parsonage Way depot in Chippenham, said he was happy to help.
"The children were quite upset and were glad to be out," he said.
"I was just happy that I was able to do something for them."
