NINE Labrador puppies from West Gomeldon are set to star in the latest series of international advertisements for Andrex Toilet Tissue.

The seven-week old, yellow Labrador retrievers, bred by farmers Martin and Christine Dean, are at Black Island Studios in London this week, for a hectic schedule of eating, sleeping and filming.

They were selected to feature in the television adverts, which typically show a puppy mischievously playing with the popular brand of toilet tissue, after the Deans registered them with the Kennel Club.

Mrs Dean said: "We advertised the puppies through the Kennel Club and they asked us if we wanted to go on a separate puppy register.

"Andrex saw our name on this list and rang us to ask if we would be interested in taking part in their adverts.

"We said we would be, so we sent them a photo of the litter."

At this stage the puppies were only two-weeks old, but Andrex were keen to know if the Gomeldon puppies might be a suitable size and colour.

Mrs Dean said: "We didn't hear anything for about four days, and then a lady rang to say she thought they would be all right.

"The vet then came to see us and took a video of the puppies."

But before the Deans could get a final answer, they had to wait several days while Andrex screen-tested a number of other litters.

"They had to see other puppies too, as really we've only got four light-coloured ones, the colour they seem to go for," said Mrs Dean, who has been breeding Labradors for the past 25 years.

"But it seems they are going to use the whole litter."
