GIVEN the tremendous increase in council tax that has been imposed on us in two consecutive years, I believe that Swindon Council should be open with the electorate and explain in great detail what we shall get for our money.
Stating that services will improve is of no use, unless we can understand the existing levels of service and measure the improvements that the council proposes. Averages, estimates and promises must be turned into facts for which the council can be held to account.
Similarly, when so many people will suffer as a result of the increase in council tax, is it not time that council tax and water rates were payable over 12 months rather than the 10 currently enforced by the council and Thames Water?
We use our services over 12 months why can't we pay for them in the same manner.
