SWINDON Town Ladies travelled to the south coast but were trounced 6-1 by South West Combination League champions Portsmouth in their final game of the season.
Portsmouth took the lead in their first attack. Carly Palmer broke down the left and Stacy Niven ran in to meet her cross and knock the ball into the net.
Portsmouth then scored three goals in a disastrous four-minute spell for Town.
In the 14th minute Charlotte Brown cut in from the right and hit the ball just inside the far post from the edge of the area. The home side were then awarded a penalty when a Town player was adjudged to have handled and Niven made no mistake with the spot-kick.
In their next attack Portsmouth forced a corner and Brown's kick curled into the net.
Three minutes before the break Portsmouth got a fifth. Lucy Keil latched onto a loose ball on the edge of the Town box to shoot low into the net.
In the 66th minute Portsmouth increased their lead when Niven's shot crept between the keeper and the near post.
Town began to have the better of the play but still could not find the net. Michelle Rich swung a corner in from the right but Kim Reeves' header rebounded to safety off a post.
With time running out Town eventually found the net. Hayley Sprules played the ball into Nikki Watts who worked her way into an opening before chipping the ball into the top corner of the net.
Town recovered from a bad start to finish the season in fifth place in the South West Combination League whereas Portsmouth are promoted to the Premier League Division One South.
