FAIRFORD are the Gloucestershire Senior Cup champions after a superb 2-0 victory over Yate last night.
Mark Webb's side sprang something of an upset to beat their Hellenic Premier Division rivals thanks to an early goal and some heroic second-half defending.
Lee Stoddart tucked away a 10th-minute penalty after Neil Matthews had been impeded in the box and Fairford went on to have the better of the first half.
Yate came out fighting after the interval but Webb's defence held firm and seven minutes from time Matthews slotted home the second to secure the trophy.
"It was a great result," said Webb.
"I'm really proud of the lads, they've beaten a very good side.
"Yate threw the kitchen sink at us in the second half which we expected, but we defended absolutely superbly.
"It's been a great season for us top six in the league and now this."
