A ROAD closure in Chippenham town centre has not caused the chaos that was predicted.
Park Lane, on the one-way network into the town, has been partially closed all week while Wiltshire County Council carried out road works.
Traffic was diverted along Hardenhuish Lane on to Malmesbury Road but there was not the massive traffic jams expected.
Park Lane resident Nigel Kitchener, 29, said the road had not even been closed even though there was a road closure sign at the end of the road.
"We have been driving down it every day. I came home at 5pm yesterday and drove down it and parked. I haven't noticed any problems," he said.
Mr Kitchener said the traffic was very bad on Monday coming into Chippenham, but he did not know the reason for this. "I don't think it was Park Lane, I think there were problems elsewhere. I expected there to be queues on Malmesbury Road but it has been fine," he said. Town councillor Ross Henning, who pursued the county council to resurface the road, said: "It will be worth it when the work is finished."
