Hospital Cup Final
SHREWTON United completed a magnificent treble with an extra-time defeat of Downton in Monday night's Hospital Cup final, to add to their triumphs in the Skurrays Wiltshire Premier Division and the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior Cup Final, writes Ryan Lovejoy.
Two strikes by Nick Jones were enough to put paid to the Jewson Wessex League side who were looking for a treble of their own at Western Way, following their two wins at the ground against Bemerton Heath Harlequins last month - one in the semi-final of this competition.
Jones got a clear sight of goal after 50 minutes as Downton failed to clear, but he put it just past the post. However, he was not to be denied six minutes later when a break down the left produced a chance which he tucked away neatly.
Kevin Pelling equalised for the Robins in the last minute with a bullet header from a corner to take the tie into extra time.
With penalties looming, Jones grabbed the decisive goal six minutes from the end, finding the net with unerring accuracy after a United corner fell to him.
Shrewton boss Stuart Withers said afterwards: "We're pleased to have completed the treble in a memorable season, and we are looking forward to playing in the Screwfix Direct Western League next season, facing different teams and a new challenge."
