CHIPPENHAM Town striker Adie Mings looks set to put pen to paper on a new one-year deal at Hardenhuish Park by the end of the week.
The 34-year-old signalled his return to full fitness last season with a string of impressive performances up front and could end his career in the colours of his home town club next May.
Although Mings has yet to sign a contract, he is confident he can agree a deal with manager Tommy Saunders.
Said Mings: "I'd like to stay for one last year and go out at the top.
"I've been really, really pleased with the way it went in the season just gone. Gareth Davies helped me get fit in the summer, Nobby Bush maintained that through the season, and Tommy gave me a chance in the team.
"People said I wouldn't get a chance up front after I struggled to get into the side the season before but, up until I got injured recently, I was probably the first striker's name on the team sheet."
Mings began a new role as a residential care officer at Notton House School three months ago and admitted fitting in the demands of his new career and Dr Martens Premier Division football is proving difficult.
He said: "For ten or 12 years I was fitting jobs in around football, but now I've found a job I like. I want to do the qualifications within the job and progress up the ladder.
"But I'm still enjoying my football and I'm doing well, so I can see no reason to give it up yet."
Mings believes Chippenham need to show the same hunger next season if they are to match their achievements of last term.
He said: "A lot of the lads proved points to a few different clubs where things hadn't worked out for them in the past.
"We'll probably have two or three new additions to the squad and, if we get our heads together and have the same level of commitment, then that will get us through."
Meanwhile, left midfielder Scott Walker has agreed terms over a new deal that will keep him at Hardenhuish Park for another two seasons.
He said :"There are a good bunch of lads at Chippenham and Tommy Saunders knows what he is on about and hopefully we'll do well again next season as well.
"I had a few other offers, but after spending three months with Chippenham I know it is a well-run club and everyone works hard for each other. The chance was there to stay, so I took it."
Manager Tommy Saunders is waiting to hear whether James Bittner will sign a new deal and has yet to speak to Gareth Davies over his future.
