MALMESBURY schools' recycling week was launched this week in conjunction with the Gazette and Herald to help bring recycling to the town.
Youngsters from St Joseph's Primary School, Burton Hill House School, Malmesbury School and Malmesbury CofE Primary School are all participating.
In the next week the classes from the schools will be collecting glass bottles and jars, paper and aluminium and steel cans to be recycled.
Lizzie Cook, a teacher at St Joseph's, said: "It is about making the children aware of what they can recycle and hopefully it will encourage parents to recycle in the future."
Last month, the Gazette and Herald won its campaign to bring kerbside recycling to Malmesbury.
Under the new scheme, householders will be given recycling boxes to collect material for recycling that will be collected by Hills Waste fortnightly.
North Wiltshire District Council said that provision for Malmesbury's kerbside recycling scheme would be made in the 2004 budget.
The Government-funded scheme will be rolled out to other towns in north Wiltshire this summer.
