People throughout Wiltshire are being asked for their views on a waste plan that will be a blueprint for the way rubbish is dealt with for a large number of years.
Recycling is seen to be the future as landfill sites get fuller and fuller and the county is running out of places to bury the rubbish.
Lots of people say they would be far more interested in recycling if it were made easier, and doorstep collections received almost unanimous approval in a poll conducted by the Gazette.
But doorstep recycling obviously costs money and while the Government has made some extra cash available it is not enough for the service to go to every town in Wiltshire and Swindon.
And what about those who live in villages? The recycling lorries will not be coming to their doors and so people in rural areas who want to do their bit to be green will still have to do their own collection, sorting and trips to the bottle and paper banks.
We must all stop throwing so much away but it is much easier said than done.
For many people with busy lives having to think about sorting cardboard and glass is one task too far.
Especially if it is not that easy to get rid of all those collected items once they are gathering dust in the garage or shed.
Doorstep recycling seems to be the answer but it must be made available to everyone and not just those who live in the towns.
