THE league season started on Saturday with only half the scheduled games being played, heavy rain during the preceding week causing the problem.
In Division One the promoted sides started well, with Nationwide House and Collingbourne both winning.
At Nationwide visiting Burbage and Easton Royal batted steadily to close on 153 for five. In reply, thanks to a solid 58 by Mark Vincent, Nationwide gained a narrow two wicket success. For Burbage, Ashley Rosser bowled well to end with three for 42 in 14.4 overs.
Collingbourne visited relegated Purton and bowled them out for 103 and knocked the runs off for the loss of five wickets with ten overs to spare.
Westinghouse had a easy home win over Beanacre. Thanks to David Christie (100) and Christian Fry (98) they raced to 242 for five.
John Cleverley then returned figures of: 13.5ovs 10 mds 5wkts 18runsto help hustle Beanacre out for 67.
Division Two
GREAT Bedwyn entertained Sutton Veny and restricted them to 132 for eight, with Alex Tennant making 46 as Darren Freegard took six for 55 in his 15 overs. Bedwyn then scored 134-4 to win by six wickets with 12 overs remaining.
At Lechlade, visiting Urchfont scored 197 for six, with Michael Brooks making 54 and Paul Slater 50.
Brooks then took four for 38 in 10.1 overs as despite the efforts of Yakki Hassan (60) and Neil Smith (48), Lechlade were bowled out for 167 in the 41st over.
Division Three
WROUGHTON Wranglers found runs hard to get at home to Wanborough, but thanks to a watchful 64 from Chris Hydeand John Granger (34) they closed on 139 for six.
Alex Thomson, with five for 38 in 15 overs, was the pick of the Wanborough bowlers. In Wanborough's reply, only 26 from Paul Sore enabled them to reach 99 all out as Nick Evans, three for 27 in 15 overs, and Clive Fuller, three for 13 in 5.2 overs, did most of the damage.
Dauntsey Gentlemen likewise struggled to 136-9 at Seagry, Dave Sherritt (30) top scoring as William Tidmarsh took four for 22 in 15 overs. Nick Marshall responded with three for 28 in his 15 overs, but Paul Bailey (30) and Adam Lawrence (30) saw Seagry to victory by three wickets with two overs to spare.
Division Four
AVEBURY started their campaign with a comfortable seven wicket victory at home to Coates.
The visitors were bowled out for 93, with only Dave Mead (22) and Will Sanderson (18) offering much resistance as Henry Fry took five for 15 in just seven overs. Greg Dix (25) and Dominic Fry (28) then helped Avebury knock the runs off in 18.4 overs.
At Lambourn, Paul Hawkins (27), Garry Hawkins (25) and Paul Annetts (31 not out) saw the home side to 149 for six. Visitors Corsham 3rds then struggled against accurate bowling, Paul Richards taking three for 26 in 14 overs, and closed on 97 for eight.
Division Five
BURBAGE and Easton Royal 2nds entertained Nettleton and made 140 for eight, with Paul Swatton making 53 not out as Tony Bleakin took three for 28 in seven overs for the visitors.
Dave Swatton, four for 18 in nine overs, and Matthew Kettleborough, three for 11 in 11 overs, then bowled Nettleton out for just 67.
At Devizes, visiting Litten Tree, unbeaten last year, scored 124 all out, Bob Mercer (44) top scoring and Pat Legge taking five for 35 in 14 overs, for the home side's 3rds. Dave Collier (37) then helped Devizes to a four wicket win despite an accurate spell of bowling from John Brown of three for 28 in 15 overs.
Division Seven
BEANACRE 2nds made a good start to their season as they scored 160 for four, thanks mianly to Owen Lewis (65 not out) and Steve Cook (41 not out).
For visiting United Churches 2nds, John Hill, with one for 26 in 14 overs and Garry Spackman, onne for 23 in nine overs, were the pick of the bowlers. Hill then top scored with 28 in Churches' reply of 110 all out.
Bath Civil Service 2nds entertained Cherhill 2nds and were bowled out for 100, Malcolm Parrack, five for 26 in eight overs, doing the damage. Only Alex Fisher (19) and a ninth wicket stand of 25 between Ravi Kamat (15) and Richard Cope helping them to that many. Kamat then bowled well to take two for 27 in 10 overs, but Parrack (26 not out) and Clive Bogg (23 not out) steered Cherhill to a seven wicket victory.
Marshfield 3rds scored 174 for nine at home to Warminster 4ths, with Alan Macdonald taking four for 21 in 10 overs. Rob Iles responded with four for 34 in nine overs as Warminster were bowled out for 119 with nine overs remaining.
Division Eight
BIDDESTONE 3rds visited Highworth 2nds and came away with a comfortable win.
Batting first, Biddestone made 143 for nine, with Steve Smith making 46 and Graham Halls taking four for 27 in 15 overs. Steve Oldham, three for 10 in 10 overs, and John Taylor, four for nine in 10 overs, then shot Highworth out for 66.
Collingbourne 2nds did well to score 190 all out against a very strong Swindon 4ths, who went on to a five wicket win.
