SCREWFIX DIRECT LEAGUE: JUSTIN Lisle scored a hat-trick as Devizes ended their season-long wait for an away win in emphatic style at crisis club Dawlish.
The bottom of the table visitors headed to Devon without a win on the road all season, but Lisle's treble, double strikes from Marcus Wallen and Stuart Skinner and a Dave Lloyd effort ensured they rounded off a turbulent 2002/03 campaign on a high.
The win was Dave Hopkins' third since he took temporary control of the reins at Nursteed Road, and the long-serving defender will meet with chairman Chris Belcher this week to discuss the possibility of taking over on a permanent basis.
Said Hopkins: "I need to know whether there will be money available and, if so, how much, together with a few of the ins and outs at the club.
"But I have enjoyed managing the team and, if things are right, then I'll take it on.
"There are a few local lads currently at other clubs who have said they come back and play for us if I take it on, regardless of the money situation.
"I think we'd need four players to come into the side and play regularly, and another three squad players to be able to compete next year."
Dawlish have taken a series of hammerings in the months since manager Tony Bowker quit and found themselves four behind at the interval. Lisle scored the first and third goals, with Skinner and Lloyd also on the mark.
Dan Green pulled one back from the spot, but Lisle scored a penalty himself to complete his first senior hat-trick.
Paul Williams scored Dawlish's second goal, but Devizes roared back and teenager Wallen grabbed his first two Screwfix Direct League goals before Skinner finished the job.
Said Hopkins: "Let's make no bones about it, they weren't a good side. They've struggled the same as we have, the only difference being they have the points from earlier in the season.
"We didn't want to go there and let ourselves down and have finished off with a win. I wanted us to have a go at them and we did that from the start, going three up inside the first 20 minutes."
