MAKESHIFT frontman Richard Thompson bagged a second half brace as Corsham came from behind to win their final game of the season on the night of Friday 2nd May .
Former Chippenham defender Thompson was forced to start on the bench after missing the defeat at Chard a week previously, but equalised with his first touch to set up victory for the away side.
Luke Chapman was also on target for Corsham, whose comeback left joint boss Dave King a happy man.
Said King: "We didn't play very well in the first half and couldn't come to terms with the windy conditions. Our passing was atrocious.
"We were annoyed about that, but in the second half it changed around and we started playing as we should be playing."
An accident on the motorway meant the Corsham players did not arrive at Weston's Bournville Estate ground until five minutes before the scheduled kick off time.
They began slowly playing with a strong wind at their backs and went into the interval a goal behind.
With 30 minutes remaining, the joint management team of King and John Freegard took the decision to replace midfielder James Weston with Thompson and switch to a 4-3-3 formation.
The move paid immediate dividends, as Thompson sidefooted home a cross from Rob Humphries to equalise with his first touch of the ball.
Thompson them missed a chance to put Corsham in front, but made amends when he latched onto Chapman's through ball to score his second.
Chapman wrapped up the points with his side's third, and ensured Corsham finished the season fourth from bottom of the Screwfix Direct First Division table.
Said King: "It has been a very disappointing season. The only reason we are down there is because we haven't scored enough goals. Hopefully that will be addressed in the summer."
Question marks hang over the futures of King and Freegard following the appointment of Colin Bush and John Woods as the club's new management team.
Neither wanted the role on a permanent basis, but are willing to stay and assist Bush next term.
